Indian share market opened lower on Monday as sentiment ‌remained subdued over elevated crude oil prices and their impact on inflation, with investors focused on the ‌US Federal Reserve’s policy decision later this ‌week.

Thirteen of ‌the 16 major sectors logged losses at the open. The broader small-caps and ‌mid-caps lost 0.3% and 0.6%, respectively.

IT stocks shed 2.3%, leading the losses. Infosys lost 3.4% after it slashed its annual ‌revenue growth forecast as weakness in its key North American market outweighed its higher-than-expected revenue.

Brent crude futures traded around $114 a ‌barrel, easing from a near six-month high of $117 after the Indian market close on Friday, though ongoing attacks on Saudi Arabia kept supply concerns in focus.

Crypto Markets Today | Expert Analysis | Purvang Mashru, Lead Analyst, BitDelta India

Bitcoin fell 1.0% to about $79,887 and Ethereum lost 1.4% to $2,322. Nine of top ten cryptos by marketcap declined, producing an equal-weight loss of 1.04%. Cardano led the retreat at 2.59%, while TRX was the only gainer.

The key change is Bitcoin’s inability to sustain $80,000 after the weekend rebound. It ended near the bottom of its daily range. Only two major assets remained above their daily midpoints, down from nine a day earlier, showing that the recovery weakened across the market.

Farside’s last fully reported US fund session remains 22 October, with $746.2 million leaving Bitcoin and Ether ETFs.

In the macro calendar, the Fed decision for interest rates is due on 28 October, followed by US GDP and personal income and outlays, including PCE inflation, on 29 October. These are the next scheduled policy and economic updates.

Bitcoin’s reference support levels are near $79,745 and $79,145, while resistance is around $80,000 to $80,925. Continued weakness below the $80,000 would keep the recovery unconfirmed.

    • (i) Second consecutive quarter of guidance cut, with the mid-point now implying a modest negative FY27 organic revenue growth;

    • (iii) Demand environment remains sluggish, with a few client-specific ramp downs, subdued volume growth and shift in spend priorities by clients, per management
    • (iv) Margins remain range-bound, which Infosys attributed partly to pricing pressure due to elevated competition

Crypto Market Today | Expert Take | Avinash Shekhar, Co-Founder & CEO, Pi42

“Bitcoin’s pullback towards $80,000 reflects a market navigating macroeconomic uncertainty rather than a shift in crypto’s underlying relevance. With the US Federal Reserve’s October 28 policy decision approaching, investors are reassessing how interest rates and geopolitical developments could influence liquidity across financial markets. The latest correction has also reduced excess leverage, with approximately $120 million in crypto positions liquidated over 24 hours, including $82 million in long positions. While this has added near-term selling pressure, a reduction in leveraged positioning can help create healthier conditions for the next recovery.

The Fed’s decision will be particularly important because interest rates influence the cost of capital and the attractiveness of holding different assets. If the central bank maintains rates as markets currently expect, attention will shift to its forward guidance and any signals on the timing of future easing. Geopolitical uncertainty, particularly tensions involving the US and Iran, remains another factor that could influence sentiment in the near term.

For investors, the focus should be on whether Bitcoin can stabilise around current levels and regain upward momentum as macroeconomic uncertainty clears. A constructive policy outlook, combined with renewed buying demand, could help the market recover. The coming week may therefore be less about predicting the Fed’s decision and more about understanding how markets respond to its implications for liquidity and capital flows.” - Avinash Shekhar, Co-Founder & CEO, Pi42

Crypto trade analysis: Harish Vatnani, Head of Trade, ZebPay

“The BTC/USDT pair on the daily timeframe is showing signs of short-term bearish momentum following a strong bullish rally from the $62,000–$67,000 accumulation zone toward the $87,000 resistance area.

After breaking above the previous consolidation range, Bitcoin experienced a sharp upward move supported by increased trading volume, indicating strong buying interest. However, price faced rejection near $87,000 and subsequently entered a consolidation phase between approximately $80,500 and $84,000.

The recent candles show a breakdown below the lower boundary of this range, with BTC currently trading around $79,585, suggesting that sellers have gained short-term control.

The loss of the $80,500–$81,000 support zone is a bearish development, particularly as price is now trading below the previously marked support around $82,200–$82,500, which may act as resistance during any recovery attempt.

On the downside, the immediate support area lies around $78,500–$79,000, followed by the psychological $77,000 level and the stronger demand zone around $76,000–$76,500. If selling pressure continues and BTC fails to reclaim the broken range, the price could potentially move toward these lower support levels.

On the upside, BTC needs to recover and sustain above $80,500–$81,000 to indicate that the breakdown may be losing momentum, while a stronger bullish recovery would require reclaiming $82,200–$82,500 and then the $84,000 resistance zone. The major overhead resistance remains near $87,000, where the previous rally faced rejection.

Overall, the daily chart currently presents a bearish short-term outlook, with a potential continuation of the correction unless buyers successfully reclaim the broken support levels. However, a confirmed daily close below the current support area would strengthen the bearish case, while a strong bullish reversal accompanied by increased buying volume could invalidate the immediate bearish structure.”

Darshan Desai, CEO Aspect Bullion & Refinery on the Gold & Bullion industry & effect on it due to the geo-politic tensions

“Gold prices are under pressure due to a stronger US dollar, rising bond yields and inflation concerns. The upcoming US Federal Reserve meeting will be important in determining the near-term price trend.

In India, festive and wedding demand continues to support bullion buying, although high prices are making consumers cautious. Going ahead, gold prices are likely to remain volatile, influenced by US Fed decisions, crude oil prices and geopolitical developments. While seasonal demand may support the domestic bullion market, global factors will continue to play a key role in price movements.”

Gold price outlook: Fed meeting, PCE inflation data and Treasury yields to drive bullion prices

Manav Modi Commodities Analyst Motilal Oswal Financial services

Gold prices steadied near $4,000 after falling more than 4% last week and briefly slipping below psychological level for the first time since July, as elevated energy prices continued to weigh on the monetary-policy outlook. Brent gained more than 6% last week amid persistent Middle East supply risks, reinforcing concerns that higher energy costs could keep U.S. inflation elevated and limit the Fed’s flexibility. However, crude prices eased in early trade amid renewed diplomatic efforts, providing some relief to bullion.

The 10-year Treasury yield remained near 5%, weighing on bullion, although continued geopolitical uncertainty provided underlying safe-haven support. Attention now shifts toward Fed’s October 27–28 meeting, where markets widely expect rates to remain unchanged, making Chair Warsh’s guidance on December meeting particularly important. Markets currently price around a 78% probability of a December hike following stronger CPI and PPI readings.

PCE inflation later this week will therefore remain another crucial trigger, with any upside surprise likely to reinforce tightening expectations, while softer inflation could provide relief to gold.

    Global bits

United States: Consumer sentiment is near a record low and business activity is cooling, while inflationary pressures persist; markets await the Federal Reserve decision and major tech earnings.

United Kingdom: Retail sales and consumer confidence have weakened, although business activity improved; the upcoming budget includes a proposed £20 billion capital boost for two state-backed lenders.

Eurozone: Economic growth slowed to a four-month low amid rising costs and political uncertainty, while French debt concerns weighed on the euro and regional stock markets.

Germany: Private-sector growth softened, manufacturing and services faced uneven demand, and home prices stagnated under pressure from high interest rates.

France: Business activity contracted in October, political unrest and strained public finances increased market concerns, but Moody’s avoided a credit-rating downgrade.

Japan: Core inflation exceeded the Bank of Japan’s 2% target, strengthening the case for a potential rate hike, while manufacturing growth slowed to a seven-month low.

Canada: Retail sales rose 1.2% in August to C$74.57 billion, driven mainly by motor vehicle and parts dealers; a Reuters poll anticipates further interest-rate increases.

Brazil: Mid-October inflation slowed to 0.32% from 0.70% previously, below expectations, but cost-of-living pressures remain a political and economic challenge.

China: Fiscal revenue increased 5.1% year-on-year during January–September 2026, slowing from 5.7% growth in January–August.

Russia: The central bank held its key interest rate at 14% as inflation remained elevated amid refinery attacks, government spending and rising utility fees.

Turkey: Tight monetary policy continues to support economic credibility, but persistent inflation and upcoming elections pose challenges.

South Korea: Economic growth likely accelerated in Q3, supported by semiconductor exports and AI-related investment, while domestic demand remained uneven; a new US trade deal sets a 15% tariff on South Korean imports. Indonesia: The central bank defended its mixed policy approach, arguing that its measures are designed to improve monetary-policy transmission and support the broader economy. Uganda: The central bank raised its main interest rate to curb the weakening currency. (Source: Reuters)

Crypto market comment: Riya Sehgal, Research Analyst, Delta Exchange

Crypto markets remain under pressure as Bitcoin trades near the $80,000 mark and Ethereum tests the $2,300 region, with macro and geopolitical risks continuing to dominate sentiment. Brent crude settled at $116.72 per barrel on Friday, its highest level since late April, as Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia intensified concerns around regional energy supply and added a geopolitical risk premium to oil prices. Crude has since eased from Friday’s highs, with Brent near $115 per barrel and U.S. crude around $102, but prices remain elevated. Persistently high energy costs could keep inflation concerns alive and complicate the outlook for monetary policy, creating an unfavourable backdrop for high-beta assets such as crypto.

Technically, Bitcoin remains bearish on the four-hour timeframe, trading below its major moving averages and maintaining a lower-high, lower-low structure. The $78,000–$80,000 region is now the key demand zone. A sustained break below $79,000 could expose the $78,000 area, while a recovery above $81,500–$82,000 would be the first meaningful sign of stabilization. Ethereum remains relatively weaker, with $2,290–$2,300 acting as immediate support and $2,360–$2,400 remaining the key recovery zone. Until these resistance levels are reclaimed, the near-term bias remains cautious.

India’s AI market could gain $50–100 billion in market cap as startups eye IPOs: Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs estimates that India’s listed AI market could expand by $50–100 billion in market capitalisation over the next 2–5 years as privately held AI companies go public. The bank has identified about 84 private Indian AI firms (valued at roughly $55 billion) spanning infrastructure, core AI development, and applications. Of these, around 70 mid-to-late-stage companies (worth $54 billion) are seen as potential IPO candidates, with 25–50% expected to list. Assuming they debut at an average valuation about four times their current private estimates, these listings would inject the projected $50–100 billion into the public AI market and broaden the range of investable AI opportunities available to public-market investors.

Gold price today: Gold falls below $4,000 as oil prices fuel inflation fears and Fed rate hike bets

Gold fell below $4,000/oz to a more than three-month low as rising oil prices fuel inflation concerns and reinforce expectations that the Fed will maintain restrictive monetary policy, with a December rate hike still on the table. Silver also weakened, hovering near 11-month lows. Oil prices eased, with WTI trading around $102/barrel after recent highs, as markets assessed the risk of renewed US strikes on Iran alongside continued Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the rupee slipped toward ₹95/$, pressured by elevated crude prices and stronger dollar demand from importers.

Rupee faces pressure from oil headwinds, lack of inflow support

The rupee is likely to come under pressure at Monday’s open, potentially slipping below the psychological level of 95, with ‌an oil price overhang compounded by the likely absence of last week’s supportive flows.

The rupee is expected to open in the 95.00-95.04 range, per traders, after settling at 94.94 per dollar on Friday.

The rupee ‌traded between 94.32 and 94.97 last week, moving toward the firmer side of the ‌range on inflows linked to the ‌Jio Platforms IPO and position unwinding. (Reuters)

Shares were mostly lower Monday in Asia and oil prices fell after rising last week to their highest level in more than four years.

    US futures edged higher.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng edged 0.2% higher to 23,137.93, while the Shanghai Composite index lost 0.4% to 3,673.83.

Govt bonds to come under selling pressure at start of new week as oil spike continues

Indian government bonds could open another week with declines as oil prices stayed elevated, stoking concerns over inflation that may push the central bank into ‌a hawkish posture.

The 6.94% 2036 bond yield may trade between 7.45% and 7.50%, according to a trader at a primary dealership, after closing at 7.4740% in the previous session.

Bitcoin price today near $79,500, ethereum holds $2,300 as oil prices fuel inflation concerns: Nischal Shetty, Founder, WazirX

“Crypto markets remained steady despite rising energy prices and cautious global trading. Brent remained near a five-month high, while Japanese bond yields increased ahead of the Bank of Japan meeting. These conditions may keep inflation elevated, increase pressure on the rupee and restrict capital entering Bitcoin and altcoins. However, expectations that the Federal Reserve will hold rates this week provide some support for global liquidity.

Bitcoin traded near $79,567 in a short-term pullback, remaining below key moving averages despite neutral RSI. The $79,000- $79,500 range provides immediate support, followed by $77,500- $77,700.

A recovery above $80,700- $81,200 could improve momentum, while a loss of support would weaken the current structure. Futures traders may look for stronger volume and open interest, alongside balanced funding, before treating any recovery as broadly supported.

Ethereum held near $2,310 after testing the psychological $2,300 level. Immediate support remains at $2,280- $2,300, with a broader base around $2,150- $2,160. Resistance sits between $2,315 and $2,325, followed by $2,360. Sustained participation above these levels would strengthen the setup, although a resistance test alone would not confirm a breakout.

The cautious crypto session reflected wider market conditions. Shanghai declined 0.53%, Singapore lost 0.41% and KOSPI fell 0.34%, while the Dow and S&P 500 ended Friday lower. Gold dropped 1.30%, but oil gained 3.77%, renewing inflation concerns. Improving US futures offered some relief, indicating that investors had not moved entirely away from growth-oriented assets.

Institutional activity was mixed. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $137.9 million in daily net outflows, while Ethereum ETFs attracted $4.4 million. Bitcoin and Ethereum nevertheless remained above their immediate support regions, suggesting spot demand and derivatives positioning absorbed part of the institutional selling. Central-bank decisions, energy prices and participation around resistance levels may now shape the next phase of market momentum.”

Change in Reco: KEI Ind (Reco: Reduce, FV: 4000) - Margin outlook turns cautious: Kotak Securities Research

KEI reported ~39%/40% yoy growth in sales/EBITDA in 2Q; however, its EBITDA margin of 10% fell short of expectations. Management now expects the FY2027 EBITDA margin (including other income) to be around 11% (11.1% in 1HFY27). This outlook is disappointing given last quarter’s guidance upgrade to 11-12% (excluding other income). We believe that increased competitive intensity could weigh on the profitability of W&C players, especially if industry volume growth does not recover further once yoy pricing inflation subsides. We cut estimates by 4-5% and revise FV to Rs4,000. Given the sharp correction in the stock price, we upgrade rating to REDUCE (from SELL).

    Oil Declines From Six-Month High

Oil edged lower as the US and Iran stuck to familiar rhetoric in their conflict, and a technical gauge pointed to overbought conditions.

Brent fell below $116 a barrel after surging last week to a six-month high, while West Texas Intermediate was near $102. President Donald Trump told Fox News it’s “getting to be decision time” on whether he will make a deal with Tehran or “finish it off.” Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said “they will not attempt” an attack if rationality existed, referring to the US.

On the technical front, Brent’s 14-day relative-strength index — a measure of the pace and magnitude of price movements — topped 74 on Friday. That’s above the level of 70 that some traders see as signaling a pullback. (BB)

NBFCs' dependence on bank borrowings rose in 2025: RBI October Bulletin

The dependence of non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) on bank borrowings saw a moderate rise in 2025. This follows the restoration of risk weights on bank lending to NBFCs to the levels prior to the November 2023 increase and softening in bank lending rates, according to a report by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Staffers in the Bulletin. According to the bulletin, NBFCs finance their operations by borrowing from banks and markets (debentures and commercial papers), which together accounted for 77.2 per cent of the total borrowings of NBFCs at end-December 2025. Deposit-taking NBFCs (NBFC-D), which are few, have public deposits as an additional source of funds. Their deposits recorded a growth of 14.9 per cent at end-December 2025, reflecting attractive rates offered by NBFCs-D. The RBI also said the growth in NBFC credit has been high in recent years, even though banks continue to be major credit providers.

Kotak Institutional Equities: Swiggy | Making sense of the mayhem

Swiggy stock has been under pressure on account of multiple reasons: (1) Poor execution in Instamart resulting in continued high quarterly loss, coupled with flip-flops in profitability targets, (2) very aggressive dark store addition guidance by Blinkit and (3) incremental cash burn in Toing. We think the correction is overdone. With market anyway not valuing Instamart, the only question should be on incremental cash burn in the business. For now, we assume that Toing investments are transitory, and higher ordering densities and somewhat higher AOVs can drive eventual breakeven. We retain BUY rating with an unchanged FV of Rs310.

Stock is mispriced at current levels

We do not believe that Toing’s losses are permanent. As customer acquisition in Toing slows down and some improvement in monetization happens, unit economics will improve. At CMP, market is assuming that Toing will continueto burn ~Rs1.2 bn per quarter, resulting in a ~2.7% EBITDA margin (% of NOV) expectation for FY2028. To this EBITDA, market is ascribing ~30X multiple, with 50% haircut to current cash on books. The entire construct looks altogether bearish. We retain our FV of Rs310 comprising higher valuation to FD.

Mcap of eight of the top-10 firms erodes by ₹1.55 lakh cr; HDFC Bank, Bajaj Fin biggest laggards

The combined market valuation of eight of the top 10 most valuable firms fell by ₹1.55 lakh crore last week, with HDFC Bank and Bajaj Finance accounting for most of the losses.

In a holiday-truncated week, the 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 1,605.44 points, or 2.15 per cent, while the 50-share NSE Nifty slumped 546.15 points, or 2.36 per cent.

Tracking the weak trend in equities, the total market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms fell by ₹20,78,774.28 crore over four sessions to ₹4,51,83,393.14 crore from ₹4,72,62,167.42 crore recorded on October 16. Read more

Sagility(Reco: Buy, FV: 57) - Growth moderates, margins outperform: Kotak Securities Research

Sagility reported an inline quarter on revenues, while sharp margin expansion was a notable highlight, driving an increased adj. EBITDAM outlook for FY2027E to 25-26%. The organic revenue growth outlook was retained at low double digits, with normalized seasonal revenue mix. Sagility continues to execute its M&A playbook to expand the addressable market and maintain broad-based growth, demonstrated by the recent acquisitions of CareSeed and Chirok Health. We expect the company to maintain low double-digit growth in the medium term. We raise FY2028-29E EPS by ~5% on higher profitability assumptions. Revise FV to Rs57 on roll-forward. Maintain BUY.

Colgate-Palmolive (India)(Reco: Reduce, FV: 1840) - Elevated A&P spend weighs on profitability: Kotak Securities Research

CLGT’s volume/revenue growth of ~8%/12% in 2Q translates into a 2Y CAGR of flat/2.5%, implying a ~100/200 bps deceleration in value/volume CAGR versus 1Q. EBITDA margin declined 290 bps yoy to 27.8%, a 4-year low, as A&P spends (+40% yoy) increased 365 bps to 18.5% of sales. While management had indicated higher A&P spends to accelerate premiumization, the magnitude of the increase is surprising, and growth is modest on a 2-year CAGR basis. We expect growth to accelerate or A&P spends to normalize in the coming quarters. We cut estimates, roll over and revise FV to Rs1,840 (from Rs1,925).

Swiggy(Reco: Buy, FV: 310) - High investments in food+QC drag down profitability : Kotak Securities Research

Swiggy’s food delivery GOV grew 18% yoy in 2QFY27 and was 1.1% behind our estimates. Instamart’s NOV grew 35% yoy and 13.4% qoq, although CM worsened sequentially and absolute EBITDA loss was higher than expected at Rs9.0 bn. The revenue and profitability gap between Instamart and Blinkit continues to widen. Blinkit’s accelerated store expansion plans are likely to strain Instamart’s growth and profitability further. We once again increase Instamart’s loss forecasts and consequently ascribe nil valuation to it. We also trim FD margin estimates, resulting in a new FV of Rs310 (Rs360 earlier)

Results: Nippon AMC(Reco: Reduce, FV: 1050) - Healthy operating performance: Kotak Securities Research

NAM delivered healthy core earnings growth in 2QFY27, with core PBT rising ~25% yoy and management fees growing ~20% yoy. However, headline PAT declined 6% yoy due to a one-time settlement charge related to investments in Yes Bank AT-1 bonds by certain Nippon schemes. Overall MF and equity AUM grew 20% yoy. Yield moderated qoq amid a favorable equity AUM growth. While fund performance has dipped, steady flows continue to support flow market share above AUM market share. We believe Nippon’s superior earnings growth outlook and valuation premium reflect its strengths. Retain REDUCE with a revised FV of Rs1,050.

Results: Havells India (Reco: Add, FV: 1250) - A concentrated beat on profitability: Kotak Securities Research

Havells reported 35%/31% yoy growth in topline/EBITDA, ~8%/3% ahead of our estimates. The strong beat in switchgear segment (+31%/49% yoy sales/EBIT and near-DD volume growth) was led by some sales spillover from 1Q and price hikes. W&C’s margin was impacted by RM volatility and higher investments, whereas Lloyd incurred an EBIT loss of Rs1 bn due to RM inflation and the under-absorption of costs. Management noted a positive outlook for both demand and margins heading into the festive season. We tweak earnings and maintain ADD with an unchanged FV of Rs1,250.

Results: SRF(Reco: Sell, FV: 2210) - Specialty chemicals margin decline is a near-term worry: Kotak Securities Research

SRF’s 2QFY27 earnings reflected pronounced margin pressures in the specialty chemicals segment. While the company has a host of growth projects lined up for the coming years, earnings growth acceleration may have to wait until FY2029 and valuations still seem to fully price in most optionalities. We revise our SoTP-based September 2027E Fair Value to Rs2,210 (down from Rs2,380) and leave our rating unchanged at SELL.

Nifty 50 Prediction for the week: Supports can cushion the fall

Nifty 50, Sensex and Nifty Bank index fell over 2 per cent each, last week. The sharp fall has caused some fear in the market. However, on the charts, Nifty and Sensex look broadly range-bound over the last few weeks. They also have a crucial support which is likely to limit the downside. Nifty Bank index is also having an important support near current levels.

As long as the benchmark indices sustain above their crucial support, there is no major change in our broader positive outlook. The indices have to break the support to come under the danger of seeing more fall. Only then our bullish view will go wrong. Read more
